Regular Season Round 6: Cactus Tbilisi - Olimpi 70-74

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Olimpi (#7) and Cactus Tbilisi (#10). Cactus Tbilisi was defeated at home 70-74 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-18. But Cactus Tbilisi won second period 17-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Olimpi won last quarter 14-12. Olimpi outrebounded Cactus Tbilisi 45-32 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cactus Tbilisi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Akiean Frederick (206-96, college: Kent St.) scored 23 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman Kakhaber Jintcharadze (195-93) chipped in 11 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Four Olimpi players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Brian Williams (187-92, college: Jacksonville St.) with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and the former international swingman Mikhail Chochua (193-87) scored 18 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Olimpi have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Cactus Tbilisi keeps the tenth position with four games lost. Olimpi will face Vera (#7) in the next round.
