Regular Season Round 9: Pinheiros - Sao Paulo 78-88

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Sao Paulo: Sao Paulo (#6) and Pinheiros (#8). Pinheiros was defeated at home 78-88 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Sao Paulo dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Pinheiros' 32. Pinheiros was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international point guard Georginho de-Paula (195-96) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side and international Leonardo Meindl (201-93) accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds. Four Sao Paulo players scored in double figures. The former international Betinho Nardi-Duarte (195-88) came up with 21 points and American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively for Pinheiros in the defeat. Pinheiros' coach Cesar Guidetti tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sao Paulo have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with UniFacisa. Pinheiros at the other side keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Sao Paulo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pinheiros' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paulo Paulistano.
