Regular Season Round 10: Mestre - Varese Robur 79-58

There was a small surprise when fifteenth ranked Mestre (2-8) outscored at home 13th ranked Varese Robur (3-7) 79-58 on Sunday. Forward Marco Lazzaro (198-92) scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Riccardo Castelli (200-88, agency: Players Group) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Mestre's coach Fabio Volpato felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international forward Marco Allegretti (204-81) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and guard Matteo Maruca (186-97) scored 17 points. Newly promoted Mestre maintains fifteenth position in B with 2-8 record. Loser Varese Robur dropped to the twelfth place with seven games lost. Mestre will face higher ranked Lecco (#5) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
