Regular Season Round 15: Lahti - Vilpas 91-99

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Lahti (4-10) was defeated at home by second ranked Vilpas (12-2) 99-91 on Sunday. Lahti trailed by 21 points after 3 quarters before a 31-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 91-99 at the end of the game. Vilpas made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward DJ Laster (198-96, college: Gardner-Webb) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Teemu Rannikko (189-80) helped adding 13 points and 11 assists. Vilpas' coach Ville Tuominen used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American forward Jerry Evans (203-90, college: Nevada) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Courtney Stockard (196-95, college: St.Bonaventure) scored 24 points. Five Lahti players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Vilpas. They maintain second place with 12-2 record behind leader Seagulls. Lahti lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Vilpas will meet KTP Basket (#5) in the next round. Lahti will play against the league's leader Seagulls (#1) in Helsinki and hope to secure a win.
