Regular Season Round 18: Gifu Swoops - Aisin AW 57-87

Very expected game when 12th ranked Gifu Swoops (3-14) were smashed at home by third ranked Aisin AW (11-7) 87-57 on Sunday. Aisin AW dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Gifu Swoops' 24 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Gifu Swoops 42-23 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Aisin AW looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American Kyle Richardson (201-91, college: Portland St.) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and Senegalese forward Assane Diop (197-92, college: Austin Peay) supported him with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Even 20 points and 9 rebounds by American center Joe Wolfinger (216-85, college: Citadel) did not help to save the game for Gifu Swoops. His fellow American import Bingo Merriex (206-80, college: TCU) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Aisin AW maintains third position with 11-7 record having just three points less than leader Iwate Big Bulls. Gifu Swoops at the other side stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Aisin AW will meet at home Kagoshima (#7) in the next round. Gifu Swoops will play against Saitama Broncos (#4) and hope to secure a win.
