Regular Season Round 9: Valur - Thor AK 79-88

Thor AK has finally registered their first victory this season after eight consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Reykjavik, where they defeated Valur (3-6) 88-79 on Thursday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Valur won third quarter 28-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Thor AK dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 30 and made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was Spanish-Colombian point guard Hansel Atencia (178-97, college: Master's, agency: Players Group) who scored 24 points and 6 assists. American guard Jamal Palmer (188-97, college: Lynn) chipped in 20 points. Four Thor AK players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian-American forward PJ Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87) added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists respectively. Thor AK (1-8) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place, which they share with Fjolnir. It was Valur's fifth loss in a row. They keep the tenth position with six games lost. Thor AK will meet higher ranked Grindavik (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena KR.
