Regular Season Round 17: Kauhajoki - Vilpas 70-69

Important game to mention about took place in Kauhajoki. Third ranked Kauhajoki (12-7) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-ranked Vilpas (15-3) 70-69 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vilpas. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-14. But Vilpas won second period 24-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vilpas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Cameron Jones (193-89, college: NAU) stepped up and scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Samuel Givens (198-89, college: Drexel) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American center Jamuni McNeace (208-96, college: Oklahoma) responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Henri Kantonen (198-97) scored 6 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third place with 12-7 record having four points less than leader Seagulls. Vilpas at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Kauhajoki will play against league's leader Seagulls in Helsinki in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vilpas will play at home against BC Nokia and hopes to get back on the winning track.
