Regular Season Round 18: Kouvot - Lahti 84-83 OT

Eleventh-ranked Lahti (5-13) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked Kouvot (9-8) in Kouvola on Wednesday. Kouvot managed to secure only one-point victory 84-83. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 24-7 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-12. Kouvot dominated on the defensive end, holding Lahti to just 7 points in third quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Lahti's 28. Kouvot forced 19 Lahti turnovers. The game was also dominated by American players. Forward Duke Shelton (208-95, college: Tampa) had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Silas Melson (193-96, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists during the contest. Melson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Kouvot players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Devante Wallace (196-92, college: High Point) with 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and forward Jerry Evans (203-90, college: Nevada) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Despite that victory Kouvot went down to sixth position due to points difference. Lahti lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh place with 13 games lost. Kouvot will meet at home Kataja (#8) in the next round. Lahti will play against Ura Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
