Regular Season Round 11: Snaefell - Grindavik 87-75

Date: December 4, 2019
Rather predictable result in Stykkisholmur where sixth ranked Snaefell (3-7) defeated bottom-ranked Grindavik (0-11) 87-75 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 46-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Snaefell forced 21 Grindavik turnovers and outrebounded them 42-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for the former international guard Gunnhildur Gunnarsdottir (176-90) who led her team to a victory scoring 27 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Finnish forward Veera Pirttinen (180-97) helped adding 18 points and 7 rebounds. Snaefell's coach Gunnlaugur Smarason used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Olof Oladottir (159-1) responded with 26 points and Natalia Lucic (-2) scored 14 points. Snaefell maintains sixth place with 3-7 record. Grindavik lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Snaefell will face higher ranked Haukar (#5) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Grindavik will play at home against the league's second-placed KR and hopes to get finally their first victory.
