Regular Season Round 8: Ashdod - Nes-Ziona 69-93

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (1-8) was crushed at home by sixth ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (5-4) 93-69 on Wednesday. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was swingman Daequan Cook (196-87, college: Ohio St.) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Center Jeff Withey (213-90, college: Kansas) chipped in 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Guard Elijah Johnson (192-90, college: Kansas) produced 16 points and forward Noah Dickerson (203-97, college: Washington) added 14 points respectively for the hosts. Five Ironi Nes-Ziona and four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ironi Nes-Ziona moved-up to fourth place. Maccabi Ashdod lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Ironi Nes-Ziona will face Hapoel Holon (#5) on the road in the next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Hapoel Eilat (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
