Regular Season Round 9: Hogsbo - Alvik Basket 84-68

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 3rd placed Alvik Basket's (5-3) road loss to second ranked Hogsbo (7-2) in Goteborg 68-84 on Saturday. Alvik Basket was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 26-7 charge of Hogsbo, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alvik Basket to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Hogsbo made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 28 Alvik Basket turnovers. Strangely Alvik Basket outrebounded Hogsbo 45-24 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Alvik Basket was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Aliyah El-Huland (185-95, college: Virginia) who led her team to a victory with 27 points and 6 rebounds. Canadian point guard Cassandra Nofuente (172-93) contributed with 13 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American center Shanity James (184-93, college: UALR) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import center Janel McCarville (188-82, college: Minnesota) added 15 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals in the effort for Alvik Basket. Five Hogsbo and four Alvik Basket players scored in double figures. Alvik Basket's coach Fotios Ioannidis tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Hogsbo maintains second place with 7-2 record having just one point less than leader Lulea Basket. Loser Alvik Basket dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Hogsbo will face Norrkoping Dolphins (#6) on the road in the next round. Alvik Basket will play against Wetterbygden and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
