A very close game took place in Vitoria between Baskonia and Joventut. Eleventh ranked Baskonia (6-6) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Joventut (7-5). Baskonia managed to escape with a 1-point win 87-86 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Joventut. Baskonia shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by Georgian Tornike Shengelia (206-91, agency: Wasserman) who scored that evening 19 points and 8 rebounds and American-Georgian Matt Janning (195-88, college: Northeastern) supported him with 16 points. Even 20 points and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) by Slovenian guard Klemen Prepelic (191-92) did not help to save the game for Joventut. American Luke Harangody (203-88, college: Notre Dame) added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Five Baskonia and four Joventut players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Baskonia moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Joventut dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Baskonia will meet UCAM Murcia (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Joventut will play against La ICL Manresa (#17) and hope to secure a win.
