Regular Season Round 9: Rustavi - Olimpi 94-59

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Olimpi (5-3) against seventh ranked Rustavi (4-4) on Sunday night. Visiting Olimpi was crushed by Rustavi in Rustavi 94-59. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Olimpi. The game was mostly controlled by Rustavi. Olimpi was better in third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpi's 22. They outrebounded Olimpi 42-28 including a 34-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rustavi players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Olimpi's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. International power forward Ilia Londaridze (205-89) nailed 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and the former international guard Merab Bokolishvili (196-92) accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Rustavi players scored in double figures. The former international guard Revaz Rogava (192-93) came up with 21 points and American power forward Akiean Frederick (206-96, college: Kent St.) added 7 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Olimpi in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rustavi moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Kutaisi and Vera. Olimpi at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with Dinamo Tbilisi. Rustavi will play against BC Titebi (#9) in Tbilisi in the next round. Olimpi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Mgzavrebi.
