Regular Season Round 11: Kings - Taipans 98-109

Very important is a home loss of first ranked Kings (11-3) against sixth ranked Cairns Taipans (7-7) on Sunday night. Host Kings were defeated by Cairns Taipans in Sydney 109-98. Cairns Taipans made 23-of-26 charity shots (88.5 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Kings were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. American guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) accounted for 31 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winning side. American point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: LBSU) came up with 23 points and 7 assists and the former international center Andrew Bogut (213-84, college: Utah) added 12 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Kings in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Kings' coach Will Weaver rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cairns Taipans have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Kings at the other side still keep top position with three games lost. Cairns Taipans will play against Melbourne Phoenix (#5) in Melbourne, Victoria in the next round. Kings will play on the road against United (#3) in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
