Regular Season Round 11: Mitsubishi K. - Niigata R. 80-54

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 80-54 loss to tenth ranked Mitsubishi K. (3-7) in Nagoya on Sunday evening. Mitsubishi K. outrebounded Niigata R. 47-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Aya Watanabe (169-92) who led her team to a victory scoring 20 points and 6 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). International point guard Mai Kawai (170-96) helped adding 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Swingman Noriyoshi Taira (165-96) responded with 11 points and point guard Megumi Yamasawa (162-96) scored 8 points and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mitsubishi K. moved-up to ninth place. Niigata R. lost their tenth game in a row. They still close the standings with ten games lost. Mitsubishi K. will meet higher ranked Haneda Vickies (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Niigata R. will play against Chanson V-M (#11) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
