Regular Season Round 17: Iskra Svit - Lucenec 72-74

The most exciting game of round 17 in the SBL took place in Svit. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Iskra Svit (7-8) to fourth ranked Lucenec (9-6) 74-72 on Wednesday evening. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican-American Melsahn Basabe (201-92, college: Iowa) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. American point guard Mike Caffey (183-93, college: LBSU) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Lucenec's coach Peter Jankovic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Phil Carr (203-95, college: Morgan St.) produced 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import center Mason Stuteville (211, college: Park) added 21 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Iskra Svit players scored in double figures. Lucenec moved-up to third place. Iskra Svit at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Zilina. Lucenec are looking forward to face league's second-placed Levice at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Iskra Svit will play against Prievidza and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
