Regular Season Round 13: Novaschool - La Zubia 79-76

A very close game took place in Malaga between Novaschool and La Zubia. Second ranked Novaschool (7-4) got a very close home victory over 3rd placed La Zubia (6-5). Novaschool managed to escape with a 3-point win 79-76 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of La Zubia. It was a key game for the second position in Group D-A. They outrebounded La Zubia 44-32 including 36 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Novaschool made 7 blocks. Center Anastasio Vazquez (204-92) nailed a double-double by scoring 13 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and American forward Alex Jackson (200-84, college: UMSL) accounted for 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Jackson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Eloy Almazan (199-84) came up with 19 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Pablo Fernandez (188-93) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for La Zubia in the defeat. Five Novaschool and four La Zubia players scored in double figures. La Zubia's coach David Cardenas tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Novaschool maintains second place in Group D-A with 7-4 record having just two points less than leader Lliria, which they share with Andujar. Newly promoted La Zubia dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Almeria and Benahavis. Novaschool will meet Mijas Quabit (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. La Zubia will play against Almeria (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
