There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Granada (4-6) defeated at home higher ranked Lima-Horta (7-4) 82-68 on Saturday. They outrebounded Lima-Horta 46-21 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lima-Horta was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Trinidad and Tobago-Vincentian center Verdine Warner (196-92, college: Shaw) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds. Point guard Andrea Alcantara (171-99) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Eliana Soriano (176-89) answered with 15 points and forward Maria Martianez (189-97, college: ORU) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Lima-Horta. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Granada moved-up to ninth place in Group B, which they share with Almeria. Loser Lima-Horta keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Granada will face Genero (#14) in Las Palmas in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lima-Horta will play at home against the league's leader Sant Adria (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
