Regular Season Round 13: Toyota A. - Denso Iris 79-82

The most exciting game of round 13 in the WJBL took place in Nagoya. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Toyota A. (9-3) to fifth ranked Denso Iris (6-4) 82-79 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Toyota A.. Denso Iris dominated down low during the game scoring 38 of its points in the paint compared to Toyota A.'s 18 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Toyota A. 37-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. The former international center Maki Takada (183-89) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and international center Himawari Akaho (184-98) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side the former international forward Ryoko Yano (178-78) responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds and international guard Saki Mizushima (171-91) scored 22 points and 5 steals. Five Denso Iris and four Toyota A. players scored in double figures. Denso Iris maintains fifth place with 6-4 record. Toyota A. at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Denso Iris are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Niigata R. (#12) in Tokyo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toyota A. will play on the road against Yamanashi QB (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
