The game between closely ranked teams ended with second ranked Universidad de Concepcion's (9-9) road victory over 3rd placed Deportivo Valdivia (9-6) 75-61 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Cape Verdean-American guard Will Tavares (198, college: Fordham) who scored 23 points and 4 assists. International Carlos Lauler (190-96) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Gerardo Isla (201-91, college: Columbia, MO) who recorded 16 points and 8 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Nicolas Ferreyra (185-85) added 17 points and 5 assists respectively. Deportivo Valdivia's coach let to play ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Universidad de Concepcion. They maintain second place with 9-9 record having just one point less than leader Las Animas, which they share with CDU Catolica. Defending champion Deportivo Valdivia dropped to the second position with six games lost. Universidad de Concepcion will face Temuco (#5) on the road in the next round. Deportivo Valdivia will play against CD Puerto Varas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
