Regular Season Round 15: Hitachi Cougars - Mitsubishi K. 65-68

A very interesting game took place in Hitachinaka. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 10th ranked Hitachi Cougars (3-10) to sixth ranked Mitsubishi K. (7-7) 68-65 on Sunday evening. Mitsubishi K. made 28-of-33 charity shots (84.8 percent) during the game, while Hitachi Cougars only scored ten points from the stripe. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 42-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Hitachi Cougars helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Aya Watanabe (169-92) who scored 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). The former international center Risa Nishioka (186-97) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). At the other side the best for losing team was guard Yuki Kitamura (173-94) who recorded 14 points and swingman Shirashi Ikuri (172-94) added 14 points respectively. Hitachi Cougars' coach Yabuuchi Natsumi tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Mitsubishi K.. They maintain sixth place with 7-7 record. Hitachi Cougars lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with ten games lost. Mitsubishi K. will have a break next round. Hitachi Cougars will play on the road against the league's second-placed Fujitsu RW (#2) in Kawasaki and hope to win that game.
