Regular Season Round 12: Gran Canaria - UCAM Jairis 90-66
Date: December 22, 2019
No shocking result in a game in Las Palmas where fourth ranked Gran Canaria (9-3) outleveled 8th ranked UCAM Jairis (5-7) 90-66 on Sunday. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to UCAM Jairis' 32. They outrebounded UCAM Jairis 49-33 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Mali power forward Sika Kone (190-2) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 25 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and American guard Sparkle Taylor (178-95, college: UTEP) who added 20 points during the contest. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Serbian swingman Olga Stepanovic (180-94) with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Danish forward Line Piechnik (171-90) scored 14 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Gran Canaria have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of Group B leader, which they share with Sant Adria and Ardoi. Loser UCAM Jairis dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. Gran Canaria will face Girona (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. UCAM Jairis will play against Ardoi and hope to win that game.
