The game between closely ranked teams ended with one of their biggest challengers Grizzlies' (11-20) home loss to third ranked Spurs (12-17) 115-145 on Monday. Spurs dominated down low during the game scoring 90 of its points in the paint compared to Grizzlies' 60. They outrebounded Grizzlies 46-35 including a 42-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Spurs shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 62.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists. The best player for the winners was power forward LaMarcus Aldridge (211-85, college: Texas) who scored 40 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman DeMar DeRozan (201-89, college: USC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas (213-92) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and forward Jaren Jackson-Jr (211-99, college: Michigan St.) added 22 points respectively for the hosts. Four Spurs and five Grizzlies players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spurs maintains third position with 12-17 record having nine points less than leader Philadelphia 76. Loser Grizzlies keep the fourth place with 20 games lost.
