Regular Season Round 16: Paulistano - Pato Basquete 74-96
Date: December 27, 2019
Bottom-ranked Pato Basquete managed to get the second consecutive victory on Friday night. This time newly promoted Pato Basquete outleveled eighth-ranked Paulistano in Sao Paulo 96-74. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 22-point difference suggests that Pato Basquete is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. And what about a second win in a row after ...thirteen consecutive losses. Pato Basquete made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. Pato Basquete had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Isaac Thornton (190-91, college: Fairmont St.) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Paulo Scheuer (204-99) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Pato Basquete players scored in double figures. International point guard Yago Santos (178-99) replied with 18 points and 6 assists and Dominican guard Gelvis Solano (185-94, college: Merrimack) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Paulistano. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Pato Basquete maintains sixteenth position with 2-13 record. Paulistano lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Corinthians. Pato Basquete are looking forward to face higher ranked Minas (#6) in Belo Horizonte in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Paulistano will play at home against Botafogo F.R. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
