Date: December 28, 2019
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Thessaloniki: Iraklis (#7) and PAOK (#14). Iraklis (6-8) crushed visiting PAOK (4-10) by 17 points 99-82. The game was mostly controlled by Iraklis. PAOK was better in fourth quarter 29-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. PAOK was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American Jamal Shuler (191-86, college: VCU) fired 26 points and 4 assists for the winners. The former international center Vasileios Kavvadas (205-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Five Iraklis players scored in double figures. Bahamas center Zane Knowles (208-92, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Octagon Europe) produced 10 points and 8 rebounds and the former international center Zisis Sarikopoulos (213-90, college: Ohio St.) added 8 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Despite that victory Iraklis went down to eighth position due to points difference, which they share with Panionios and Rethymno. PAOK lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with ten games lost. Iraklis will face higher ranked Peristeri GS (#4) in Athens in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. PAOK's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Thessaloniki Aris.
