Regular Season Round 30: Sendai 89ers - Yamagata 87-66

Date: December 29, 2019
There was no surprise when 6th ranked Yamagata (7-23) was crushed on the road by first ranked Sendai 89ers (21-9) 87-66 on Sunday. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Yamagata was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Keita Sawabe (184-95) who scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Jerome Tillman (201-87, college: Ohio, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Seiji Kouno (172-89) who recorded 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Stephen Hurt (211-93, college: Kansas St.) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sendai 89ers have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-9 record. Yamagata lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 23 games lost. Sendai 89ers will face Fukuoka R. (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Yamagata will play against Bambitious N. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
