Regular Season Round 23: Xinjiang FT - Sichuan BW 120-111

Everything went according to plan in Urumqi where second ranked Xinjiang FT (19-4) beat 17th ranked Blue Whales (5-18) 120-111. Xinjiang FT dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Blue Whales' 44 and made 21-of-25 charity shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Blue Whales 47-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. Xinjiang FT players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. The former international center Changdong Yu (206-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. American point guard Kay Felder (175-95, college: Oakland) contributed with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American point guard Courtney Fortson (180-88, college: Arkansas) answered with 34 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 8 assists and the other American import forward Tyler Hansbrough (206-85, college: UNC) added 23 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Blue Whales. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Xinjiang FT. They maintain second place with 19-4 record having four points less than leader Guangdong ST. Blue Whales lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventeenth position with 18 games lost. Xinjiang FT's next round opponent will be Golden Bulls (#6) in Hangzhou. Blue Whales will play at home against the league's leader Guandong Tigers (#1) and hope to win that game.
