A very close game took place in Cairns between Cairns Taipans and Bullets. Third ranked Cairns Taipans (11-9) got a very close home victory over 8th ranked Bullets (8-11). Cairns Taipans managed to escape with a 2-point win 91-89 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for forward Cameron Oliver (203-96, college: Nevada) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) helped adding 28 points. The best for the losing side was swingman Lamar Patterson (196-91, college: Pittsburgh, agency: Pensack Sports) with 16 points and 6 assists and forward EJ Singler (198-90, college: Oregon) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Bullets' coach Andrej Lemanis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cairns Taipans have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 11-9 record having just three points less than leader Kings, which they share with United. Loser Bullets keep the eighth position with 11 games lost. Cairns Taipans will meet at home New Zealand Breakers (#7) in the next round. Bullets will play against the league's second-placed Perth Wildcats and hope to secure a win.
