Regular Season Round 11: Maree - Brunell 84-73

Very expected game when 8th ranked Brunell (2-9) was defeated on the road by third ranked Maree (8-3) 84-73 on Saturday. Maree dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Brunell's 30 and made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Brunell 47-23 including a 36-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Maree looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Brunell's players. The best player for the winners was American Carly McClendon (185-96, college: Rollins) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Claire Rockall (178-90, college: Iowa St.) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. McClendon is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Maree's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Treyanna Clay (183, college: Iona) produced 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks and forward Katie Walshe (180-1) added 19 points respectively for the guests. Four Brunell players scored in double figures. Maree moved-up to second place, which they share with Glanmire and WIT Wildcats. Brunell lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with nine games lost. Maree will meet Liffey Celtics (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Brunell's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Cork to the arena Glanmire.
