Regular Season Round 12: Thor AK - Haukar 92-89

A very interesting game took place in Akureyri. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Haukar (6-6) to eleventh ranked Thor AK (2-9) 92-89 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Haukar won fourth quarter 33-29. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Thor AK made 34-of-44 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Haukar helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by Spanish forward Pablo Hernandez (201-97, college: Missouri Baptist, agency: Promo Sport ID) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Julius Agustsson (190-1) supported him with 17 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Even 29 points and 8 rebounds by American-Dutch Gerald Robinson (202-84, college: UT Martin) did not help to save the game for Haukar. American forward Flenard Whitfield (201-90, college: W.Michigan) added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Five Thor AK and four Haukar players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Thor AK maintains eleventh position with 2-9 record. Haukar at the other side keeps the sixth place with six games lost. Thor AK's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Fjolnir (#12) in Reykjavik.
