Regular Season Round 14: Gomel - RGUOR 82-88

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Gomel-Sozh's (2-12) home loss to eighth ranked RGUOR (4-9) 82-88 on Sunday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. RGUOR dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Gomel-Sozh's 30. RGUOR forced 26 Gomel-Sozh turnovers. Palina Kastsiukavets (175-4) scored 39 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and center Palina Katlinskaya (185-3) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. RGUOR's coach Olga Podobed used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Anna Hatskevich (180-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Maryna Rakauskaya (173-92) scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. Four Gomel-Sozh players scored in double figures. RGUOR moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Gorizont II. Loser Gomel-Sozh stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. RGUOR will meet higher ranked BrGU COR Victoria (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gomel-Sozh will play against the league's leader Gorizont (#1) in Minsk and hope to secure a win.
