Regular Season Round 17: CD Valdivia - Las Animas 56-68

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Valdivia: Las Animas (#1) and Deportivo Valdivia (#2). Deportivo Valdivia was defeated at home 56-68 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Deportivo Valdivia. Las Animas forced 19 Deportivo Valdivia turnovers. Strangely Deportivo Valdivia outrebounded Las Animas 43-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Ricky Harris (187-87, college: UMass) who scored 32 points. His fellow American import forward Kristian Clarkson (202-84, college: Widener) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Argentinian center Ignacio Alessio (203-87) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Nicolas Ferreyra (185-85) added 12 points and 13 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Deportivo Valdivia players scored in double figures. Las Animas maintains first place with 17-3 record. Defending champion Deportivo Valdivia keeps the second position with nine games lost. Las Animas will meet AB Ancud (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Deportivo Valdivia will play against the league's leader Puente Alto (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
