Regular Season Round 16: TalTech - TLU/Kalev 97-116
Date: January 8, 2020
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tallinn: TLU/Kalev (#13) and TalTech (#11). TalTech was smashed at home by 19 points 97-116 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. TLU/Kalev shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a very good performance for Latvian swingman Mareks Jurevicus (197-85) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American center Michael Buchanan (212-94, college: USC Upstate) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international forward Joonas Jarvelainen (202-90) replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Oliver Metsalu (196-93) added 20 points in the effort for TalTech. Five TLU/Kalev and four TalTech players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. TLU/Kalev (5-10) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with LU. Loser TalTech dropped to the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. TLU/Kalev will face league's leader VEF Riga on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. TalTech will play against Rapla (#5) and hope to win that game.
