Rather predictable result when third ranked Cairns Taipans (12-9) won against at home 6th ranked New Zealand Breakers (9-11) 85-79 on Thursday. Cairns Taipans made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. It was a very good performance for Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 7 rebounds. American guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) contributed with 20 points for the winners. American swingman Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) replied with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists and New Zealand forward Robert Loe (211-91, college: St.Louis) added 24 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. New Zealand Breakers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cairns Taipans have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-9 record having just one point less than leader Kings. New Zealand Breakers at the other side keep the sixth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Bullets. Cairns Taipans are looking forward to face league's leader Kings in Sydney in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. New Zealand Breakers will play at home against Bullets (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
