There was no surprise when 17th ranked Blue Whales (6-20) lost to fourteenth ranked Sturgeons (11-15) in Jinjiang 99-110 on Thursday. Sturgeons looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sturgeons made 7 blocks. Quite impressive performance for the former international Zhelin Wang (214-94) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks (made all of his eight free throws). American-Ukrainian point guard Eugene Jeter (180-83, college: Portland) contributed with 22 points and 9 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. American forward Tyler Hansbrough (206-85, college: UNC) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import point guard Courtney Fortson (180-88, college: Arkansas) added 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Blue Whales. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Blue Whales' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Sturgeons. They moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Nanjing TX MK. Blue Whales lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the seventeenth position with 20 games lost. Sturgeons will face league's second-placed Xinjiang FT in Urumqi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blue Whales will play at home against Jiangsu Dragons (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
