The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Olimpia as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Olimpia defeated 10th ranked Defensor in Montevideo 96-87. Olimpia made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Defensor helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for guard Abel Agarbado (179-93) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Lithuanian center Zygimantas Riauka (205-93, college: UW-Parkside) helped adding 17 points and 11 rebounds. Olimpia's coach Gerardo Jauri used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) responded with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import John DeGroat (201-85, college: Pittsburgh) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Olimpia (12-4) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Defensor at the other side keeps the tenth place with seven games lost.
