Regular Season Round 79: Memphis G. - San Antonio S. 134-121

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Spurs (16-21) against fourth ranked Grizzlies (17-22) on Friday night. Visiting Spurs were defeated by Grizzlies in Memphis 134-121. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Spurs. Grizzlies dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Spurs' 50. They outrebounded Spurs 49-37 including 38 on the defensive glass. Grizzlies players were unselfish on offense dishing 39 assists. It was an exceptional evening for guard Ja Morant (190-99, college: Murray St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 14 assists. Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas (213-92) accounted for 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Swingman DeMar DeRozan (201-89, college: USC) came up with 36 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 9 assists and power forward LaMarcus Aldridge (211-85, college: Texas) added 21 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Spurs in the defeat. Five Grizzlies and four Spurs players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Grizzlies have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Spurs at the other side dropped to the fourth position with 21 games lost.
