Very important is a road loss of third ranked Canberra Capitals (9-7) against eighth ranked Townsville Fire (5-12) on Friday night. Visiting Canberra Capitals were crushed by Townsville Fire in Townsville 102-69. Townsville Fire outrebounded Canberra Capitals 39-22 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 61.5 percentage. Townsville Fire players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Belgian point guard Julie Vanloo (172-93, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. The former international forward Tess Madgen (180-90) contributed with 26 points for the winners. Townsville Fire's coach Shannon Seebohm felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Marianna Tolo (196-89) answered with 17 points and 8 rebounds and forward Keely Froling (188-96, college: SMU) added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Canberra Capitals. Five Townsville Fire and four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. Townsville Fire moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Bendigo. Defending champion Canberra Capitals keep the third position with seven games lost. Townsville Fire will play against higher ranked Perth Lynx (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Canberra Capitals will play against the league's leader Southside Flyers having rather not much hope for a victory.
