Very expected game when 15th ranked Montecatiniterme (2-13) was smashed by sixth ranked USE Basket (10-5) in Empoli 98-59 on Saturday. USE Basket shot 28 for 38 from the free-throw line, while Montecatiniterme only scored ten points from the stripe. USE Basket forced 19 Montecatiniterme turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Montecatiniterme was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for forward Gabriele Giarelli (200-93) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Power forward Daniele Sesoldi (195-92) contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five USE Basket players scored in double figures. Swingman Jacopo Mercante (197-90) replied with 13 points and 5 rebounds and center Andrea Iannilli (207-84) added 14 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Montecatiniterme. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. USE Basket moved-up to fourth place in B, which they share with Monfalcone. Loser Montecatiniterme keeps the fifteenth position with 13 games lost. USE Basket will face Cestestica Aquila (#11) in Torrenovese in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Montecatiniterme will play at home against Oleggio (#12) and hope to win that game.
