There was no surprise when 11th ranked Torino (4-10) was crushed at home by third ranked Venezia (11-3) 96-70 on Saturday. Venezia dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Torino's 30. They outrebounded Torino 38-22 including a 23-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by Torino's players. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian power forward Gintare Petronyte (197-89) who scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international Martina Bestagno (189-90, agency: Two Points) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Venezia's coach Giampiero Ticchi felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Clara Salvini (182-92) produced 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Maria Barberis (180-95) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Venezia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 11-3 record having just two points less than leader Schio. Loser Torino dropped to the twelfth place with ten games lost. Venezia will face Palermo (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Torino will play against the league's leader Schio and hope to win that game.
