Regular Season Round 15: Zwolle - Groningen 69-98

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Zwolle (12-2) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by second ranked Groningen (12-3) 98-69. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Zwolle. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Groningen dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Zwolle's 24. They outrebounded Zwolle 35-19 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Zwolle's players. It was a great evening for American forward Donte Thomas (201-96, college: Bradley) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international center Thomas Koenis (210-89) helped adding 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Five Groningen players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Sherron Dorsey-Walker (194-93, college: Oakland) with 14 points and the other American import guard Martez Walker (195-95, college: Oakland) scored 14 points. Groningen have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-3 record having just one point less than leader Zwolle. Defending champion Zwolle still keeps top position with two games lost. Groningen are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Amsterdam (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zwolle will play against Leiden (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
