There was a small surprise in Santiago de Comp where sixth ranked Gijon Basket (7-5) edged 4th placed Obradoiro S. (8-4) 69-68 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was guard Alejandro Rubiera (190-98) who scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Fernando Fernandez (201-89, college: Hannibal-LG, agency: Dynamics Global Management) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Four Gijon Basket players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Icelandic forward Sigvaldi Eggertsson (197-0) who recorded 20 points and Javier Cal (191-96) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Obradoiro S.'s coach Denis Pombar tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gijon Basket maintains sixth place in Group A-B with 7-5 record. Newly promoted Obradoiro S. keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Gijon Basket will face Culle (#7) in Culleredo in the next round. Obradoiro S. will play on the road against Chantada and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
