Regular Season Round 17: Puerto Montt - Temuco 89-83

There was a minor upset when their close opponent Temuco (9-13) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Puerto Montt (10-11) 89-83 on Sunday. Puerto Montt dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Temuco's 24 and made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Temuco 56-30 including a 41-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Puerto Montt looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international center Manny Suarez (208-93, college: Creighton) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 20 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks for the winners and American Durrell Summers (196-89, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. South African forward Pieter Prinsloo (208-92, college: Marist, agency: Promo Sport ID) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and guard Ricardo Gomez (176-93) scored 15 points and 5 assists. Four Temuco players scored in double figures. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Puerto Montt. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CD Puerto Varas. Loser Temuco keeps the fifth position with 13 games lost. Puerto Montt will face higher ranked CD Castro (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Temuco will play against the league's second-placed Universidad Catolica and hope to win that game.
