Regular Season Round 18: Sassari - Varese 93-87
Date: January 12, 2020
Very predictable result when second ranked Sassari (14-3) beat at home 9th ranked Openjobmetis VA (8-9) 93-87. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Sassari made 30-of-38 charity shots (78.9 percent) during the game, while Openjobmetis VA only scored seven points from the stripe. 33 personal fouls committed by Openjobmetis VA helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Canadian forward Dyshawn Pierre (198-93, college: Dayton) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and Croatian center Miro Bilan (213-89, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Even 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by American guard Jason Clark (188-90, college: Georgetown) did not help to save the game for Openjobmetis VA. Guard Matteo Tambone (192-94) added 22 points. Five Sassari and four Openjobmetis VA players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sassari have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 14-3 record behind leader Virtus BO. Openjobmetis VA at the other side keeps the ninth place with nine games lost. Sassari's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Pesaro (#17) on the road which should be an easy win for them. Openjobmetis VA will play against Trieste (#16) and hope to win that game.
