Regular Season Round 15: M.Haifa - Beer Sheva 95-80

Date: January 13, 2020
There was no surprise when 8th ranked Beer Sheva (5-9) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Maccabi Haifa (8-7) 95-80. They made 21-of-25 charity shots (84.0 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi Haifa especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American swingman James Young (198-95, college: Kentucky) notched 24 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) supported him with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 18 points and 6 rebounds by American forward John Petrucelli (193-92, college: Molloy) did not help to save the game for Beer Sheva. His fellow American import forward DaSean Butler (201-88, college: WVU, agency: Inception Sports) added 17 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maccabi Haifa moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nes-Ziona. Beer Sheva at the other side dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv and it may be the game of the week. Beer Sheva will play on the road against the league's leader Maccabi T-A (#1) in Tel-Aviv and hope to win that game.
