Regular Season Round 12: Al Shamal - Al Gharafa 83-80

The most exciting game of round 12 in the D1 took place in Doha. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 4th ranked Al Gharafa (7-4) to first ranked Al Shamal (10-3) 83-80 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Al Gharafa. Al Shamal looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Georgian Mikhail Berishvili (204-87) who scored 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international forward Faris Avdic (201-97) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Aaron Nelson (205-91, college: S.Indiana) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Tre Bussey (190-91, college: Georgia South) added 19 points and 5 assists respectively. Five Al Shamal and four Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. Al Shamal have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-3 record. Al Gharafa at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. Al Shamal are looking forward to face Al Wakrah (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Al Gharafa will have a break next round.
