Regular Season Round 16: Haukar - Keflavik 80-73

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Keflavik (9-5) against fifth ranked Haukar (10-6) on Wednesday night. Visiting Keflavik was defeated by Haukar in a tough game in Hafnarfjordur 73-80. It looked good early as Keflavik took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Haukar had a 26-18 second period charge getting the lead and Keflavik was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-80. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Keflavik to just 6 points in third quarter. Haukar made 16-of-18 charity shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Keflavik turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Haukar brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Lovisa Henningsdottir (184-95) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Randi Brown (170-96, college: New Orleans) who added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. At the losing side Venezuelan Daniela Wallen (180-95, college: Oklahoma City) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals and international swingman Emelia-Osk Gunnarsdottir (174-98) scored 20 points (made all of her eight free throws). Haukar moved-up to third place, which they share with Skallagrimur. Keflavik at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Haukar will play against bottom-ranked Grindavik (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Keflavik will play against Breidablik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
