Regular Season Round 16: Mashad - Naft Abadan 81-83

The most exciting game of round 16 in the Superleague took place in Mashhad. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Mashad (10-6) to fifth ranked Naft Abadan (12-4) 83-81 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mashad. Naft Abadan made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by Mashad helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international swingman Saeid Davarpanah (190-87, agency: Interperformances) fired 25 points and 5 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for the winners. The former international Reza Ranjbar chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Naft Abadan players scored in double figures. American point guard Corin Henry (181-88, college: Tarleton St., agency: Agency) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points, 13 assists and 4 steals and the former international power forward Saleh Foroutannik (207-94) added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Mashad's coach Srdjan Jovanovic tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Mahram. Mashad at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Naft Abadan is looking forward to face Kerman (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mashad will play against Raad (#11) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
