Regular Season Round 27: Fujian S. - Bayi R. 113-97

Not a big story in a game in Jinjiang where 20th ranked Bayi Rockets (2-26) were defeated by fourteenth ranked Sturgeons (12-16) 113-97 on Friday. Sturgeons dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Bayi Rockets' 50 and made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Bayi Rockets 45-34 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sturgeons made 9 blocks. Bayi Rockets were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international Zhelin Wang (214-94) who had a double-double by scoring 51 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. The former international forward Chen Linjian (198-93) chipped in 24 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Hao Fu (206-97) who recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds and forward Azat Aersilan (201-96) added 20 points and 4 assists respectively. Five Sturgeons and four Bayi Rockets players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Sturgeons moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Shenzhen L. and Nanjing TX MK. Bayi Rockets lost their eighth game in a row. They stay dead last with 26 lost games. Sturgeons will face higher ranked Eagles (#11) in Qingdao in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bayi Rockets will play on the road against Jilin Tigers (#10) in Changchun and hope to win that game.
