Regular Season Round 18: Taipans - 36ers 108-91

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Cairns Taipans (13-10) defeated at home 5th ranked Adelaide 36ers (11-12) 108-91. Cairns Taipans players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American forward Cameron Oliver (203-96, college: Nevada) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) supported him with 28 points. Five Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. Even 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds by the former international power forward Daniel Johnson (212-88, college: Pepperdine) did not help to save the game for Adelaide 36ers. Ukrainian-American point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California) added 21 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Cairns Taipans maintains third position with 13-10 record having just three points less than leader Kings. Adelaide 36ers at the other side dropped to the sixth place with 12 games lost. Cairns Taipans' next round opponent will be Melbourne Phoenix (#8) in Melbourne, Victoria where they are favorite. Adelaide 36ers will play at home against Bullets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
